TSE Consulting’s The Academy conference closes in style
The second and final day of The Academy closed with a bang at the Olympic Museum in Lausanne, Switzerland. Following on from the previous day, which provided fascinating insight into new ways to attract revenues and promote oneself and one’s organisation to a wider audience, Day 2 of The Academy had a lot to live up to!
It started off in great fashion, with Dennis Landsbert-Noon, Chair of Burson Martseller’s EMEA Sports Practice, providing some great advice into the communication techniques that sports organisations can use in difficult times. Notably, Dennis reflected on the importance of transparency as a key issue, asserting that, ‘the more transparent the organisation, the quicker their reputation recovers’.
This was followed by an engaging presentation from Richard B. Stephenson, Partner and Senior Consultant at TrueNorth Consulting. Richard provided a great insight into the key aspects that individuals should consider when communicating, emphasising the importance of understanding one’s audience. Richard followed his presentation with an excellent workshop, offering participants tips and tools essential to sport leaders.
The conference resumed in the afternoon with a discussion regarding the role of athletes in sports organisations. With many guests heralding from National and International Federations, and other organisations that are directly involved with athletes, this was a particularly relevant topic for many of them to hear about. The forum was very pleased to welcome former Olympic and World Champion skiers Didier Cuche and Virginie Faivre, as well as the IOC’s Sports Director Kit McConnell and the Executive Director of the World Players Association, Brendan Schwab, all of whom provided different, yet fascinating insights into the development of athlete involvement so far, and some suggested steps for the future.
Before wrapping up, The Academy was delighted to welcome Angela Ruggiero, four-time gold medallist in ice hockey and current member of the Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee. In her role as Chair of the IOC Athletes’ Commission, Angela concluded the Forum in great fashion, passionately asserting the value of athlete inclusion, and how her Commission hoped to exemplify how this could be done.
The Academy and TSE Consulting would like to say a big thank you to all of speakers and our media partners who contributed to the programme and promotion of the conference. Many positive comments have been received and we are truly grateful for all of their fantastic efforts.
