Didier Cuche and Virginie Faivre Join TSE Consulting’s The Academy
The Academy is delighted to announce that Olympians and World Champions Didier Cuche and Virgnie Faivre have joined The Academy’s Forum, which makes up the final session of the two-day conference held on June 7-8, 2017. Cuche and Faivre will provide their views on the voice of athletes in sports governing bodies moving ‘from peripheral influence to true authority’.
Didier Cuche is considered to be one of the most successful male skiers of his generation, being a six-time FIS World Cup champion, achieving four of these in Downhill and once in Super-G and Giant Slalom respectively. A five times Downhill winner and record holder in Kitzbühel, Didier also holds an Olympic silver medal (Nagano 1998) and four FIS Alpine Skiing World Championships medals (one gold, two silvers, and a bronze). He won the Swiss Sports Personality of the Year in 2009 and again in 2011, when he was also a recipient of the Swiss Person of the Year award.
Virginie Faivre is a true pioneer of her sport, having won the FIS Halfpipe World Championships title three times, making her the most successful athlete ever in the event. In addition, Virginie won the halfpipe World Cup title on two occasions, finishing on the podium an impressive 12 times in 19 starts. After being at the top for more than 13 years, and finishing fourth in the Winter Olympic Games (Sochi 2014), Virginie officially retired in December 2016 and is currently focused on her sport management studies and work for the Swiss Sports Aid Foundation and Swiss Olympic Athletes' Commission.
Didier and Virginie join IOC Sports Director Kit McConnell in what promises to be an exciting end to The Academy conference. The involvement of athletes in sports governing bodies has seemingly be on the increase for a number of years, yet the ideal extent of this involvement, and subsequent success to date, remains a contentious topic.
How effectively are athletes currently represented in sports governing bodies? To what extent should athletes be involved in sports governing bodies? Are Athletes Commissions the best way to ensure such representation? The Academy’s Forum will address all of these questions and many more as both the panel guests and conference participants will share their thoughts and experiences.
Didier and Virginie join a great cast of speakers for this year’s The Academy, including and social media expert Matthias Lüfkens, and former IOC Director and sports marketing expert Michael Payne. For more information on The Academy, including our full programme, please click here.
